Sodium polyacrylate, whose chemical formula is (C3H3NaO2)n, is a new type of functional polymer material and an important chemical product. The solid product is a white or light yellow block or powder, and the liquid product is a colorless or light yellow viscous liquid. It is obtained from acrylic acid and its esters as raw materials through aqueous solution polymerization. It is odorless, soluble in sodium hydroxide aqueous solution, and precipitates in calcium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide and other aqueous solutions. It is often used as a water treatment agent, salt water refining and latex thickening. It can also be used for food thickening and emulsification.
